ACADEMIC RESOURCES
BARR
BARR Family-Caregiver Letter
BARR — Building Assets, Reducing Risks — is an evidence-based system that provides our school with a strength-based comprehensive approach to meeting the academic and non-academic needs of all students. Through BARR, we work to harness the power of relationships and data to remove barriers to learning and ensure that no student is invisible. BARR is the framework that provides us the opportunity to get to know each of our student's strengths and interests during a critical transition time in their education. As educators, we leverage the knowledge we gain through relationship building and I-Time in order to better engage and challenge our students.
LifeSkills Training is a program that has been proven to work in more than 35 published studies. Journals such as the Journal of the American Medical Association have reported how students who have participated in the LifeSkills Training program have demonstrated resistance to alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use. These effects have been shown to last for up to 12 years after students have participated in the program. Learning objectives include personal self-management skills, general social skills, and drug resistance skills. We are pleased to have the opportunity to incorporate this program into our academic day.
